From “One Dancing”

Working with composer John Berendzen, Camille recently premiered One Dancing, an original music-theatre-dance piece based on Stein’s portrait of Isadora Duncan as part of the March Music Moderne 2012 festival.  This was part of a larger event, curated by Liminal performance group: Liminal presents Gertrude Stein – an immersive multimedia performance installation in response to the writings of 20th century modernist master Gertrude Stein. Celebrating the sensual musicality of Stein’s own spoken language, as well as many of the musical settings of her texts, Liminal again brings together the best of Portland’s diverse arts scenes. Luminaries from every discipline join forces to create a total sensory music experience in a warehouse performance environment.

This was my third collaboration with playwright Fin Kennedy and the girls of Mulberry School, and what a collaboration it was!  Following on the steps of our two previous Edinburgh Fringe Festival premieres, Mendhi Night and Stolen Secrets, we were incredibly thrilled that the final installment in this theatrical triptych, the product of a unique and exciting collaboration between students and theatre professionals, was recognized with this prestigious award.
